In this provocative cautionary tale for teens, the sequel to Awaken, seventeen-year-old Maddie’s rebellion against the digital-only life grows dangerous. Maddie is in Los Angeles, trying to stay out of trouble. But one night, a seemingly small act of defiance lands her in the place she fears the most: a detention center. Here, patients are reprogrammed to accept a digital existence. Maddie is now fighting for her mind, her soul, and her very life. Once again, Katie Kacvinsky paints a disturbing picture of our increasingly technology-based society.

This ebook includes a sample chapter of Still Point.

  • Fun but Heavy-Handed

I finished book two in the series in a day! It was very fast paced and extremely engaging. This book really put in perspective the world even further. I am anxious for book number three to see how everything unfolds. While I enjoyed the book, it felt a bit heavy handed in the aspect of technology. It was really pushy into making the reader believe that all technology is bad. It felt too forced in that aspect. It seemed that every chance the author got, she was trying to push the negativity of technology. If these mentions would have been pulled back some, then it would have been more engaging. There was an abundance similes and metaphors that felt like they could be cut. Most of the issues I had with the first book--the betrayal of the first person perspective, too much detail surrounding the world-building, how the world-building is handled-- are pretty well resolved. I am anxious to see how these books will end!!! I am excited to see how Maddie will continue to be used as a catalyst in her world.

I couldn't put Awaken down when I started reading it and was very excited for the second one. I read Middle Ground and it was great just like the first. I wish a third book would come out, I actually got to know these characters and felt close to them. Definitely recommend this one.
